How age-based PSA ranges work

PSA rises naturally with age as the prostate gradually enlarges, which is why "normal" is defined per age decade rather than as one fixed number. These ranges are a screening guide, not a diagnostic cutoff — read the full breakdown in our PSA levels by age guide.

AgeTypical upper limit
under 402 ng/mL
40–492.5 ng/mL
50–593.5 ng/mL
60–694.5 ng/mL
70+6.5 ng/mL

When to See a Urologist

Talk to a urologist if your PSA is above the typical range for your age, if your results keep rising across repeat tests, or if you have urinary symptoms alongside an elevated PSA. A high PSA alone is not a diagnosis — but it is a reason for a conversation, not a wait-and-see.
